Effect of Pyrolysis Temperature of Coconut Fibre Biochar Incorporated in Zn/Al Layered Double Hydroxide for the Removal of Nickel(II)

Abstract Coconut-fiber biochar (CCFB) pyrolyzed at different pyrolysis temperatures (400°C, 500°C, and 600°C) that immobilized Zn/Al layered double hydroxides (Zn/Al LDH-CCFB) composite adsorbent was prepared via a simple co-precipitation technique. The adsorbents were used to reduce the high concentration of Ni(II) metal ions from aqueous solution. morphological analysis investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A series batch adsorption tests conducted with parameters, which cover pH solution (3–7), initial (10–250 mg/L), contact time shaking (0.16–8 h). Pseudo-second order kinetic model well fitted for all samples, compared pseudo-first intraparticle diffusion models, value R 2 = 0.9993, 0.9719, 0.9924, 0.9978 LDH-0, LDH-CCFB400, LDH-CCFB500, LDH-CCFB600, respectively. Meanwhile, process best described by Freundlich 0.9311, 0.9987, 0.9843, 0.9981 From performance test, it found capacity LDH-CCFB500 agitated 4 h 7 higher other demonstrating an up 106.95 mg/g. LDH-CCFB had improved, pristine LDH-0. Thus, is concluded possesses great potential in removal pollutants, especially hazardous heavy ions.
